Area Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postboxes were vandalized, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then located multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; authorities are not yet aware of any harm in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have requested to the public for details.
A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in February 2020.
