Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in employing video review systems.
Replay technology will be launched at The Championships this year.
Athletes will gain the ability to contest particular rulings from the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
This innovation will be operational on Centre Court and the number one court for the duration of the tournament and on the other four show courts when they are hosting singles contests.
This development arrives only a season following the All England Club introduced ELC, which terminated the 147-year tradition of line officials.
Scope of Challenges
Players cannot to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but are allowed to ask for the official to review specific situations, including:
- If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
- If a ball touched an opponent's racquet or body on the way past.
- Possible interference end of a point.
Notably, there will be no cap on the number of challenges a player can ask for.
A Recent Example
An illustrative case occurred in a recent tournament recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the video challenge against Jack Draper.
The British player conceded it was a tough call for the official, but believed his rival had "used the regulations effectively."
The umpire viewed a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of hindrance, awarding the point to Medvedev.
Wider Implementation
Video reviews aren't exclusive to Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour plans to have video reviews implemented at every one of its events.
Further Updates
Another innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This addresses instances where the crowd have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.
Finally, with exactly 100 days remaining until the start of the Championships, the AELTC have also announced an expansion in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
